feeder.ro BTLT: Paint-a-monument / workshop for children / Serebe (drawing) + Octav (screen-printing)
On the 12th and 13th of October at 18:00, Save or Cancel organized a different kind of workshop at MNAC. Children from 8 to 15 years of age were invited to take part in a drawing and screen-printing workshop, free of charge, designed to stimulate interest in heritage and participation in the city’s life. The motto of the event was “We explore art as a means of urban regeneration.” Paint-a-monument consisted of a drawing workshop for children with Serebe and screen printing with Octav Avramescu.

The Paint-a-monument workshop participants received a copy of KOLOR, the first children’s coloring book created by Serebe, the new booklet Capitol, and also a t-shirt and canvas bag, printed by Atelierul de serigrafie de pe lângă Asociaţia Jumătatea Plină, who transfered the graphics made by Acme Industries on a limited run of objects, in support of the heritage awareness campaign, with a focus of CAPITOL.
Guided by Serebe the children felt at home, and they sketched and assembled ideas for the Capitol campain. From their views, we find that marking the abandon with a series of ghostly figures is pretty glaring, and if we think of a transformation of the space, why wouldn’t we change it into a lion or a dragon? Some wonderful ideas, which didn’t occur to us so far.
Octav Avramescu introduced the young participants to the world of manual printing and showed them how to create and multiply a poster, with the help of screen-printing.
On the second day of the workshop, the children customized together with Serebe a piece of the poplar wood puzzle, laser-cut and engraved, then screen-printed by Octav.
“I had two nice days with a super fun gang of kids. With and about the Capitol Summer Theatre.” – Serebe
They then transferred the drawings done on the glass, going through the process of exposing the image and developing the emulsion on an A2 screen, stretching the paint with the squeegee and making their first fanzine.
The workshop was wonderful, with the children taking part in two creative evenings with Serebe, Octav and Save or Cancel.
Their works were on display Friday, 20 October, during the Capitol Talks 2 / Exhibition / booklet Capitol launch at Hub A, Casa OAR Bucharest.
